In 2001, as St. John Paul II addressed a large group of altar servers, he said that the altar server's "commitment to the altar is not only a duty, but a great honor and a genuine service."
At St. Mary's, we encourage all young people who have received their First Communion to consider becoming an altar server. Being an altar server allows both children and teenagers the chance to serve Jesus in a special way. It also provides an opportunity for the altar server to learn the deeper meaning behind the actions and symbols used at the Mass, as well as other devotionals, and special celebrations in the Church's calendar. Most importantly, it helps the youth of our parish develop a more intimate personal relationship with Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO BE AN ALTAR SERVER?
The basic requirements are simple:

No, there is no additional training needed to serve at either daily Mass or Sunday Masses.
