Welcome to Lent, a season of awesome grace! Here at St. Mary's we have several initiatives underway to aid you in your personal journey through Lent. From Symbolon to the celebration of the Sacraments, discover the phenomenally spiritual and formative opportunities available to you this Lent. Make your Lent meaningful and personal!
We have invested in Symbolon's digital platform as a parish. That means as a parishioner of St. Mary's, you can register online, and have 24/7 access to all 20 sessions of the Symbolon series. Select your favorite topic, or roll through the compelling, state-of-the-art video presentations in a systematic fashion. You choose, and you set your own pace. You can even get the family involved and make a Lenten committment as a family to watch one session during each week of Lent!
Lent is the perfect time to work on your relationship with God. The first step to building a good relationship with God is to begin praying each day. Prayer is our concrete way of communicating with God, and when we enter into a sincere communication with God, our relationship deepens and becomes real.
In addition to personal daily prayer, we invite you to join the parish for either of the following spiritual events being offered throughout Lent:
1. Stations of the Cross - every Friday at 7:00pm in the church.
2. Eucharistic Adoration, Sung Evening Prayer, and a Lenten Reflection
held every Wednesday evening at 7:00pm in the church during the Lent.
Finally, the Sacraments of the Church are the most powerful means by which God comes to give Himself to us. God waits for us and draws close to us in each Sacrament. Attending weekday Masses during Lent, whenever possible, is a wonderful way to draw closer to God. The Church also highly encourages that each person receive the Sacrament of Confession during Lent so we can know and receive the merciful love of Jesus and be freed from the weight of our sins.
In the annual “Welcome Home to Healing” initiative begun by Bishop Serratelli 8 years ago, every church in the Paterson Diocese will open its doors from 7:00pm - 8:30pm each Monday evening from Feb. 17 to March 23 during Lent for people to go to Confession.
Bishop Serratelli invites all, especially those who have been away from the Church, to experience God's mercy and forgivness through the Sacrament of Confession.
Confession is also available during regular hours on Saturdays from 4:00pm - 5:00pm.
